On April 27th, 2011, an F-5 tornado devastated my home town, Tuscaloosa. The next day, I wandered throughout my neighborhood. I came across this in the field next to my house. There they were- lasagna and lasagna dish right next to each other, completely intact and surrounded by miles of devastation. Orange dirt and faded asphalt. I don’t understand tornadoes. I don’t understand why my neighbor’s house is gone and mine is here. I don’t understand the whys and why nots of science or philosophy. I don’t understand why bones break when porcelain doesn’t.
