Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho creates sculptures and 2D works that probe the tension between beauty and violence. Nugroho’s life-size resin sculptures of gun-toting human figures in flower suits are unnerving at a first glance. Rebels or enemies in unlikely disguises, these characters elicit a mixed reaction of fear and surprise, even laughter. Combining text and images, Nugroho’s elaborate tapestries put a surreal, folkloric spin on propaganda art. Take a look at some photos of Eko Nugroho’s work by Desi Suryanto and Oki Permatasari HERE: http://hifructose.com/2013/05/08/eko-nugrohos-sculptures-and-tapestries-mix-danger-and-beauty/
