My sister just compared me being gay to my purple potato…

dontstopthechain:

So tonight we had the whole family over for dinner. With our dinner we had these fingerlings potatoes and mine were darker than everyone else’s. So I bit into mine and noticed it was purple on the inside. I freaked out because I mean who has ever heard of purple potatoes? But my mum was like “that’s how they’re supposed to be.” I didn’t care, I kept making a big deal out of my purple potatoes. Finally my sister says “Hey those potatoes were born that way. Why are you white? Why do you have blonde hair and blue eyes? Why are you a female?… see?” And then she turned to my mother, who is always very hypocritical and in denial of me being gay and goes “Sometimes, things are just born a certain way and it’s okay. It’s still normal. That’s just how it is. And you’re right, that’s how they’re supposed to be.” The whole table just stared at her and went silent… until it sunk in and I started laughing my ass off. I love my sister. And I love the subtle cracks she takes against my homophobic parents. Grandmum still thinks that whole spiel was about the potatoes being purple.

Restored Faith in Humanity of the Day: New Zealand Legislators Serenade Gay Marriage Amendment

Yesterday, New Zealand became the thirteenth country to legalize gay marriage after the Parliament voted 77 to 44 on an amendment to their 1955 marriage laws. Upon the formal announcement, many people in the crowd as well as a few lawmakers spontaneously burst into singing the traditional Māori love song “Pokarekare Ana.”

ok so what no one tells you about bisexuality is that you don’t sit calmly and statically in the middle of the kinsey scale instead you’re swINGING ON A MOTHERFUCKING PENDULUM BACK AND FORTH HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE

I honestly don’t see how this is a thing. Just because you’re bisexual doesn’t mean you’re dating all of the men and women in the world or stopping them from dating someone else. If you were that’d be greedy, but that’s not what bisexuality is. Also greediness implies objects and people aren’t objects.

Out of all the anti-bisexual sentiments circulating, this assertion that bisexual people are greedy perplexes me the most.  Where does that even come from? I’m racking my brain, and I can’t think of anywhere else in life where that so-called logic would be anything other than ridiculous.
At the Dairy Queen:
Customer: I’ll have a small cone of vanilla and chocolate swirl, please.
Person in line behind them: Both chocolate and vanilla? *disgusted glare* You greedy fuck.
At a Department Store:
Customer: *Puts a pair of flats and a pair of heels on the counter*
Cashier: Um, flats and heels? That’s weird. Couldn’t you, like, choose one or the other and stick with it?
Customer: Why should I choose? It’s not like I wear them at the same time. Sometimes flats suit me and sometimes heels suit me. In fact, I haven’t worn heels in about 5 years, but these ones really appeal to me.
Cashier: *Shaking head* Greedy.
At the Hair Salon:
Hair stylist: So what are we doing with you today?
Client: I decided… I want to go really short! Like, a pixie cut would be fun.
Hair stylist: No! We… you can’t just do that. Long hair is your thing! You’ve had long hair for ten years. You can’t change and go short.
Client: But, I look good with short hair too. The weather’s getting warm, and I think it’s a good time for a change.
Hair stylist: Get out. That’s just greedy.
I mean, obviously sexuality and relationships are a bit more complicated than these examples… but not by that much.  WTF?

I fortunately have come into my own in a very open and accepting group of people who never have questioned my happiness in regards to the gender of my romantic/sexual partners, although it very often confuses them.
I really like these examples though, and very well may adopt some of them in explaining the LGBTQ etc spectrum.
