Holy Land USA
Waterbury, Connecticut

Holy Land USA was once an 18 acre Bible-themed park located in Waterbury, Connecticut. The park had about 40,000 visitors a year until it closed in 1984 for renovations. Holy Land USA never opened back up again due to the death of owner John Greco in 1986. It has been abandoned ever since. The abandoned acres of the theme park have been watched over by groups of nuns for decades, but the place keeps getting more and more creepy as the park continues to deteriorate.

On top of the vandalism and eeriness the park gives off, a teenager was murdered on these abandoned grounds in 2010. Since then police records have shown that the amount of trespassers have been decreasing which just means abandoned Holy Land USA is as creepy and deserted as ever.

With deference to the genius of David Bowie, here’s Space Oddity, recorded on Station. A last glimpse of the World.

Huge thanks in the making of the video to the talented trio of Emm Gryner, Joe Corcoran and Andrew Tidby, plus Evan Hadfield and all at the CSA.

Goddamn it. I don’t know what to say. This is absolutely incredible.

whelp, chills.

Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho creates sculptures and 2D works that probe the tension between beauty and violence. Nugroho’s life-size resin sculptures of gun-toting human figures in flower suits are unnerving at a first glance. Rebels or enemies in unlikely disguises, these characters elicit a mixed reaction of fear and surprise, even laughter. Combining text and images, Nugroho’s elaborate tapestries put a surreal, folkloric spin on propaganda art. Take a look at some photos of Eko Nugroho’s work by Desi Suryanto and Oki Permatasari HERE: http://hifructose.com/2013/05/08/eko-nugrohos-sculptures-and-tapestries-mix-danger-and-beauty/

My sister just compared me being gay to my purple potato…

dontstopthechain:

So tonight we had the whole family over for dinner. With our dinner we had these fingerlings potatoes and mine were darker than everyone else’s. So I bit into mine and noticed it was purple on the inside. I freaked out because I mean who has ever heard of purple potatoes? But my mum was like “that’s how they’re supposed to be.” I didn’t care, I kept making a big deal out of my purple potatoes. Finally my sister says “Hey those potatoes were born that way. Why are you white? Why do you have blonde hair and blue eyes? Why are you a female?… see?” And then she turned to my mother, who is always very hypocritical and in denial of me being gay and goes “Sometimes, things are just born a certain way and it’s okay. It’s still normal. That’s just how it is. And you’re right, that’s how they’re supposed to be.” The whole table just stared at her and went silent… until it sunk in and I started laughing my ass off. I love my sister. And I love the subtle cracks she takes against my homophobic parents. Grandmum still thinks that whole spiel was about the potatoes being purple.
